Santos sink Notwane

A First Division South League clash at SSG grounds on Saturday saw Santos collecting maximum points after defeating Notwane  by a solitary goal.

A game of limited goal scoring opportunities was put to rest by Tumelo Sentle’s goal in the second half.

In a post-match interview, Santos assistant coach, Ontse Ntesa, said even though his team did not display entertainment football, it was important to amass the three points.

Ntesa said Notwane played better football, but his team managed to absorb pressure and ultimately secured victory.

“We are so happy for the three points.

If you are to look at our graph, we are consistent. We win, loose, draw.

We cannot maintain the winning momentum, but we are happy with the win it puts us in a positive position,” he said.

Ntesa said the scorching temperature was a deterrent as it drained players and therefore limiting their running.

He said their next opponent before the end of year break would Extension Gunners.

Meanwhile, Notwane assistant coach, Thatayamodimo Tebele, said his team’s performance was below par.

“I think first half we clicked a bit but not to the maximum therefore losing goal scoring chances.

In the second half, the intensity of our games dropped and conceded an easy goal that could have been avoided if my players had maximum concentration,” he said.

Tebele said poor decision making made life difficult for his side, hence losing a ball, which resulted in a goal.

He said losing three points was a serious setback, therefore the team must double efforts in the remaining games to improve its log standing.

Tebele said his team would travel to Tsabong to face Desert Nxau before the festive season recess.

After nine games, Notwane have accumulated 10 points, while Santos have 16 points.

In other First Division League South matches played on Saturday, URI Black Forest defeated City Polar 3-1, UB Hawks defeated Mogoditshane Fighters 3-0 while

Tlokweng United and Desert Nxau settled for a one-all draw.  ENDS
