Curb non-communicable diseases through regular exercise

The Vice President, Slumber Tsogwane has hailed active participation in marathon activities as a strategic approach that could curb the increasing rate of non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
Tsogwane said this on Saturday during the Orapa Half Marathon, stating that active participation in marathon activities could save government money spent on treatment of NCDs.
He implored the public to make exercising a habit and called on the parents to encourage their children to participate in health walks.
He stated that human beings were the most valuable resource, saying it was every individual’s responsibility to keep healthy.
“Let us make exercising part of our culture, we must be seen as a healthy nation,” he emphasised.
For his part, the chairman of Spectacle Management Group Onewamang Letsatsi said the objective of the Orapa Half Marathon was to nurture talent by supporting at least 17 runners from Orapa Athletics Club to grow up to the level of Letsile Tebogo.
Kgosi Ryner Makosha of Orapa informed the runners that exercising was critical to their health as it was a strategic way of injecting healing into their bodies and was grateful that the marathon took place in Orapa. The 21.1 kilometre race was won by Neheim Katala who scooped position one, Rolex Jelibo won second position while Ethel Pangiso came third.
In the Masters female, a category of 35 years and above was won by Rebecca Makua in first position, while Onneile Dintwe came second and Masego Mosweu came third.
Molidah Muda emerged as the winner in the Master female; disabled category of 35 years and above, Thandiwe Ndlovu second with Ratiso Tobu in third position.
In the male category of the 21.1 kilometres seniors, Moses Karikunye scooped position one.
Other categories included the male junior category, Master male category of 35 years and above in the 21.1 kilometres, which also catered for those with disabilities. ENDS
