01 Nov 2023
Premiership champions, Jwaneng Galaxy continued its winning streak Tuesday by drubbing Eleven Angels 6-2 in a premier league fixture played under the floodlights at Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown.
The Jwaneng outfit, which has been on song in the TotalEnergies CAF campaign lately slaying football powerhouses among them Orlando Pirates of South Africa, came with gun blazing against Lekgamu-La-Bananyana, which was forced to play catch up throughout the match.
Perhaps the absence of Angels’ youthful Coach, Seemo Mpatane, who was serving suspension, added to the woes of the youthful side.
Galaxy made their intentions to secure victory from the onset clear and opened the score through Gift Moyo in the 8th minute of the first stanza of the game.
The more resolute and thirsty Jwaneng outfit struck Eleven Angels again in the 11th minute through Daniel Msendami to put the game beyond the hosts.
The buoyant Eleven Angels, however, did not deter, they put up a gallant fight in what could pass as David and Goliath combat and their efforts paid off in the 28th minute through Ofentse Mbaiwa.
The goal spurred the hosts on but they were denied an equaliser moments later by Jwaneng Galaxy’s Karabo Gaolebale, who parried Bakang Mpatane’s strike out of play.
The now-energised Angels’ pressure resulted in a corner that Mpatane beautifully struck to level matters in the first half.
The second half of the match was a different ball game altogether.
Galaxy outplayed Eleven Angels in all areas and controlled the game in toto.
Gift Moyo scored his second goal of the match in the 57th minute to increase Galaxy’s tally to three against Angels two.
The host did not reply, they were in sixes and sevens as Galaxy were on the offensive.
Thabang Sesinyi, who was fouled in the penalty area by Kefilwe Sekgopi, calmly slotted from the penalty spot in the 62th minute.
Sesinyi nearly earned himself a brace three minutes later but the woodwork was his main undoing.
He was at it again and scored in the 73rd minute after rounding off the hosts’ defenders before slotting a beauty into an empty net to make it 5-2.
The pressure was too much on Eleven Angels whose young goal minder, Tambani Bachopi sustained injury in the hand and had to be taken off the field of play.
Cleopas Dube hammered the last nail and sixth of Galaxy avalanche goals in the 91st minute by chipping Eleven Angels goalkeeper to sink the hearts of the hosts die hearts and elate Galaxy stars followers.
Coach Morena Moreboli of Galaxy said although he was not happy with how his team played in the first half, he was elated that they managed to up their game and take control of the game and close on spaces.
He was however happy that the team managed to get the maximum three points.
Angels goalkeeper coach, Kabelo Samilla blamed injuries and fatigue on the October 31 loss.
Also, he said that his charges gave Galaxy a lot of space, especially in the second half. ENDS
