Galaxy up for challenge

Jwaneng Galaxy is ready to slug it out and rub shoulders with the best teams in Africa.
Galaxy will represent the country in the CAF Champions League after advancing to the group stages of Africa’s most premium competition for the second season running.
Galaxy has been drawn in group B with Cote D’Ivoirean giants Asec Mimosas, Wydad AC of Morocco and Tanzania’s Simba SC.
In an interview, Galaxy spokesperson, Tankiso Morake said they welcomed their inclusion in the group and were looking forward to the games.
“As a club, we have always indicated our ambition of being one of the best teams in the continent and what other way of achieving that than playing with the best teams in Africa,” he said.
He said Galanation, as Galaxy supporters fondly call it, had continued to defy the odds when many least expect.
“Last season in the same competition, we lost 0-2 at home against Simba SC and we went and clobbered them in their own stadium, where they had gone 13 years without losing.
This year, we eliminated Orlando Pirates when many have predicted an embarrassment against us,” he said.
Morake also said they were experienced enough to know what it took to play against the best.
“We will have to be well prepared to make a good account of ourselves,” he said.
He also said the good thing about the group stages was that one was assured many games, which he said also gave a team a chance to make amends ahead of the next game.
Morake also hailed Galaxy’s achievement in a short space of time, as the team had already qualified for the CAF Champions League group stages for the second time despite it being less that 10 years old.
He also appreciated sponsors such as Medupi Drilling and Naledi Mining Services Company, which recently got into a partnership with Galaxy through a sponsorship of P1 million for one year.
He said the sponsorship was timely as playing in Africa was expensive due to extensive travelling.
Galaxy will open its 2023/24 champions league season with a long trip to the Maghreb to face Wydad AC on November 25 before a return date with Simba SC in Botswana on December 2.
Galaxy will then travel to Cote D’Ivoire to face former African aristocrats, Asec Mimosas on December 9 before the Ivorians return the fixture on December 19.
Galaxy will then lie home in wait for Wydad on February 24 next year.
Lesagaripa will conclude their group stages campaign with an away game to Simba SC on March 2. Ends
