Diamond Trading Company Botswana (DTCB) has sponsored national swimming team with P100 000.
The team, which is made up of Mmusi Matthews, Junior Keitsile, Melodi Saleshando and Tumo Matija is representing the country at the World Aquatics Junior

Swimming Championships, which is starting today until Saturday in Netaya, Israel.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, DTCB senior manager-human and resources services, Stella Moetse said DTCB was happy to sponsor the swimmers who would represent the country at the championships.

She said swimming was a sport that silently continued to grow and bring recognition to the country.

DTCB recognises swimming as a comprehensive discipline with far reaching implications, she said.

Moetse said DTCB’s strategic priority was to support and elevate communities and promote the socio-economic opportunities for the betterment of the lives of

Batswana through the impactful social performance initiatives.

“These implications include offering our youth diverse ways of earning an income and growing the economy of Botswana,” she said.

Botswana Swimming Sport Association (BSSA) president, Kgaotsang Matthews said the executive committee met with affiliates last year and came up with their four-year strategy for the period 2022-2025.

She said they were in the implementation stage, with one of their main objective being to improve athletes’ performance.

She said the four athletes representing the country at the championships, Matthews, Keitsile, Saleshando and Matija were aged between 13 and 17.

“Together with other young strong Batswana swimmers across all clubs of the BSSA, they are the future of swimming in Botswana,” she said

She further said the four were among swimmers who were looking for the 2028 Olympic qualification, which would take place in Los Angeles, USA.  ENDS
