Botswana’s finest 100m runner, Letsile Tebogo will open the stage for Botswana at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary tomorrow.
Tebogo will be competing in the heats and his personal coach Kebonyemodisa Mosimanyane said the athlete was prepared and looking forward to the competition.
He said they had been working very hard for the World Championships, adding that the Diamond League competitions had also helped them to rectify some mistakes.
“What I can tell you is that Letsile is in good health, spirit and free from injury, so we are expecting him to do his best to proceed to the next round,” he said.
Mosimanyane explained that their target for this year was to make it to the finals, a medal would be a big bonus.
He said Tebogo was currently off social media and therefore oblivious of the pressure that was mounting both within Botswana and around of the world.
On Sunday, the quarter-milers Bayapo Ndori, Leungo Scotch and Collen Kebinatshipi will be competing in their different heats.
National team coach, Chilume Ntshwarang said all the athletes looked ‘sharp’ for the competition, adding that despite the fact that they did not have long camps back home, individual athletes had been preparing themselves very well.
“If you remember very well athletes such as Letsile, Scotch and Ndori have been preparing in Europe early in the season, and Letsile never returned home; he remained to fully prepare. I must say they were not on holiday, and they gained a lot of experience,” he said.
Ntshwarang expressed confidence that all the athletes would proceed to the next round.
“What gives me hope is that all the athletes are relaxed; they do not show any signs of pressure, and I think they are ready to go,” he said. Ends
