Premier League giants, Township Rollers, will take to the field against South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs in a pre-season friendly match at the National Stadium on July 29.

The fixture was announced by Rollers Chairperson, Bafana Phempheretlhe Pheto during a press conference on Wednesday.

“In the early hours of July 28, Kaizer Chiefs will be arriving by flight to honour our invitation,” he said. “Then in the afternoon, we will hold a joint press conference.”

Phetho said on a match day, gates will open from 9 am, and there will be two curtain raisers before the match of the day kicks off at 3pm.

“What we’ve asked, and been assured of by the Kaizer Chiefs team, is that they will bring their new signings, he added. “The same applies to us; our new signings will all be featuring on the day.”

Popa are likely to meet their former player, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, who joined Chiefs from another South African side, Supersport United.

Tickets will be sold for P500 (VIP), P200 (grandstands), P80 (Eastern stand), and P50 (North and South stands). Pheto pointed out that early bird tickets are available until July 24.

Chiefs are one of South Africa’s most successful sides, boasting over 10 league titles and over 22 club trophies, though in recent years they have been going through a dry spell – unable to win any silverware.

Rollers will be in Maun for yet another international friendly game against Namibia’s African Stars on August 5.

Pheto explained that taking the game to Maun was meant to cater for the club’s fan base in the northern part of the country.

Meanwhile, Rollers has announced the appointment of Innocent Morapedi as assistant coach, while the new head coach is yet to be unveiled. ENDS
