Tsogwane launches BDP parliamentary candidate

03 Jul 2023

Serowe West electorates have been urged to vote for Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) parliamentary candidate, Mr Moemedi Dijeng during the July 8 by-election.

Mr Dijeng is contesting alongside Botswana Patriot Front (BPF)’s Mr Onalepelo Kedikilwe, Mr Sibusiso Ngwenya of Botswana Congress Party (BCP) and independent candidate, Mr Kefilwe Koboto.

Launching the candidate on Sunday, BDP chairperson, Mr Slumber Tsogwane described Mr Dijeng as a strategist destined to transform the constituency into a development and service hub. Mr Tsogwane said Mr Dijeng’s nomination was based on his numerous capabilities.

He said the opposition was incompetent to drive and advocate for developments in the area as it was evident during the Tshekedi Khama era.

The party chairperson said due to its sound manifesto, BDP had over the years become the party of choice.

He added that opposition parties were trying to build a coalition leadership which polluted peace, tranquility and harmony that needed to be preserved.

He thus urged democrats to solicit for more votes in their respective areas and sell the party manifesto for constituents to appreciate it.

On other issues, Mr Tsogwane decried false and malicious reporting by some journalists, noting such reports were misleading the public.

He said instead of being agenda setters, some of the media had resorted to fabricating information, adding that such speculation polluted democracy.

He warned democrats to shun unfounded reports that had potential to cause divisions among people and disrupts unity.

For her part, BDP women’s wing chairperson, Ms Peggy Serame said women were in charge of promoting and preserving the party as it was credible, trustworthy and had an evident trajectory.

Ms Serame thus encouraged women to play their role of advertising, promoting and publicising the party manifesto.

She thus implored women to canvass for the party as it deserved to be in power in order to benefit Batswana.  ENDS
