Gaborone United books spot at DTCB women championships

Gaborone United ladies team has qualified for the Diamond Trading Company Botswana (DTCB) women championships, after winning all the three games in the Southern block playoffs held in Gaborone over the weekend.
Gaborone United’s first victory was against Zodiac Collabo, where they won 4-1.
In their second game, they beat BDF X1 with a slim margin of 1-0.
GU continued their dominance in the playoffs as they thrashed Royal Fighters 9-0, to make sure that they finish their games unbeaten and at the top of the log.
They will now face defending champions Double Action and Western Dynamites from the Northern Block as well as Granada Wanderers from Eastern Block in a final slated for July 8 at the National Stadium.
Summing up the block playoffs, Botswana Football Association (BFA) chief executive officer, Mfolo Mfolo said it had been a culmination from the Northern, Eastern and now Southern block.
He said the association had achieved its mandate, given that the aim was to have more girls playing football.
Mfolo said BFA also wanted to unearth talent as that would help them to have a solid and well-rounded national teams.
“Generally we are happy with how the playoffs went.
We will be waiting for the finals to be played in Gaborone,” he said.
He said he was confident that the final would leave to their expectation, given that the teams that had qualified earned their spot, and they were very competitive.
In that regard, Mfolo said Batswana should come and appreciate the cream of women’s football, adding that the champions would also represent Botswana at the COSAFA zonal CAF women championships.
“It will be very interesting because all these four teams will also fight for the supremacy and also to represent the country,” he said. ENDs
