Masisi endorses desert race

President Dr Mokgwetsi Masisi on Saturday morning flagged off the Toyota Gazoo racing 1000 Kalahari Desert Race in Jwaneng.
Speaking in an interview on the sidelines of the event, President Masisi said the event had now grown in leaps and bounds, signifying the seriousness of government towards the development of the sport.
Dr Masisi said his wish was for local participants to increase in number and get enough financial support to eventually emerge victorious in various categories of the event.
Furthermore, Dr Masisi hoped for the locals to in future acquire hosting rights of the event.
The Minister of Youth, Gender, Sports and Culture, Tumiso Rakgare said his ministry, together with that of tourism, could work together and find ways for the youth to meaningfully benefit from the event.
Meanwhile, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Lemogang Kwape said there was hope for the event to contribute significantly to the economy, especially small entrepreneurs.
Without doubt, Dr Kwape said an event of such caliber catered for the entertainment, sport business and tourism sectors, therefore giving varied entrepreneurs an opportunity to make some profits.
Additionally, he said it was important for the relevant ministries to encompass the culture aspect into the even so that the international community could be accorded an opportunity to learn about the country and its diverse cultures. ENDS
