Keorapetse Setlhare is the new Confederation of Universities and Colleges Sports Association (CUCSA) vice president.
Setlhare, who is the Botswana Tertiary Student Sport Association (BOTTESSA) president, was elected at the confederation’s annual general meeting in Livingstone, Zambia.
He was contesting for the position against Angola’s Alberto Carlos, who garnered one vote while Setlhare amassed five votes.
He said he would ensure that, together with his team, they raised the bar and made the CUCSA Games even more competitive.
Setlhare said one of their goals was to ensure that there was mass participation from other countries in the southern region.
He said countries such as Angola, eSwatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, and Namibia had not been fully participating in the games.
He said it was important for the countries to be encouraged and supported by their governments to participate in the games.
On luring sponsors for the CUCSA Games, he said their next competitions were in South Africa and that they might attract more sponsors since most of the multi-national companies in the region were based in South Africa.
He noted that the games were held after every two years and that it was important to organise other activities such as workshops and sport conferences to prepare for the games.
Setlhare also said his election was an indication that they had been doing well in good governance.
“Other countries have been benchmarking from us,” he said.
Meanwhile, a student from Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BUAN), Theo Dipholo has been elected as a student representative. Ends
