BDP launches Mmaphula East candidate
19 Jun 2023
Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) secretary general, Mr Kavis Kario has appealed to Mmaphula East ward electorates to vote for Mr Andrew Phalalo during Saturday’s council bye-elections.
Launching Mr Phalalo in Palapye on Saturday, Mr Kario said he was the ideal candidate for Mmaphula East as he would continue where the late councillor, Mr Gagoope Sebina left off in advocating for developments for the ward such as the paving of internal roads, a new hospital and the building of schools.
He urged Mmaphula East residents to vote BDP in large numbers for the party to retain the seat which it won in 2019.
Mr Kario said the ruling party was the only party which was organised and had a reputable record. He said the BDP started from nothing, and developed the country into a middle economy.
Unlike other parties, he said, the BDP had a good track record, sound policies as well as programmes geared towards uplifting the lives of Batswana.
He also said the BDP was committed to giving Batswana the best services.
Mr Kario also said Mr Phalalo was a capable candidate who would advocate for developments in their area.
He noted that Palapye constituency had been a BDP stronghold for a long time, urging residents to ensure that they worked hard to take it back from opposition parties in 2024.
BDP deputy secretary general, Dr Lemogang Kwape said Mr Phalalo could be trusted because he had been empowering people in the area.
He said the BDP was a stable and peaceful party that had ensured that the country continued to be a shining example of democracy.
Tonota Member of Parliament, Mr Pono Moatlhodi and Member for Parliament for Lerala/ Maunatlala, Mr Sethabelo Modukanele also pleaded with Mmaphula East residents to vote for the BDP candidate.
Mr Moatlhodi said there were 1 900 registered voters in the ward and 1 600 of them voted in the 2019 general election.
He noted that the BDP won the ward by 643 votes, adding that if they worked hard they could garner more than 800 votes.
He encouraged BDP members who did not vote in the 2019 general elections to vote in the bye-elections.
He said they should also ask for votes from opposition parties.
For his part, Mr Phalalo pleaded with Mmaphula East electorates to vote for him. He said he would deliver on his promises and would follow the late Mr Sebina’s footsteps to advocate for developments in the area. ENDS
