VP to launch council candidate
15 Jun 2023
The Vice President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane, will on Saturday launch a Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) council candidate for Mmaphula East council ward in Palapye, Mr Andrew Phalalo.
The Vice President is expected to lead other party members in a house to house campaign on Thursday, to solicit votes for BDP’s candidate for a by-election scheduled for June 24.
Mmapula East by-election was prompted by the death of BDP Councilor Gagoope Sebina on April 2.
In a meeting with party members in Palapye on Wednesday, Mr Tsogwane pleaded with them to work hard and retain the seat which they won in the 2019 general elections.
He said during the campaign for the by- election, they should ensure that they lure even non BDP members to vote for the party since the opposing parties had proved to be incompetent while the BDP remained the only party with sound policies and programmes to improve the lives of Batswana.
The Vice President pleaded with BDP members not to give opposition parties a chance to win the by-elections because then they might win again in the general elections next year.
He was however optimistic that united, the BDP would not be defeated come June 24.
Mr Phalalo also appealed to Mmaphula East electorates to vote for him and promised to give them his best follow-up in the late Mr Sebina’s footsteps by advocating for developments in the area. ENDS
