The senior national football team, Zebras, will tomorrow battle it out with Libya in an AFCON qualifier at Obed Itani Chilume stadium.
The Zebras, which are in Group J with Tunisia, Equatorial Guinea, and Libya, languish at the bottom of the group with one point after playing a total of four games.
Tunisia lead the pack with 10 points followed by Equatorial Guinea with nine points while Libya occupy the third spot having amassed three points.
During the last match played by the two sides in June in Benghazi in Libya last year, Libya beat the Zebras by a solitary goal to nil.
Zebras coach, Mogomotsi ‘Teenage’ Mpote aid in an interview Wednesday night that despite trailing the group, there was still a lot at stake to play for and that the Zebras would get into the Saturday duel with all guns blazing.
Besides the encounter presenting the team with a golden opportunity to redeem itself following a poor showing throughout its AFCON campaign, the Zebras gaffer said a win and a possible draw or win against Tunisia in an away fixture at a later date could place the team in better stead to take the third spot and peradventure earn itself a place in the African top-flight football showpiece.
The optimistic Mpote was also happy with the team’s blend of young and old.
He was adamant that any positive results would boost the morale of the boys especially that there were other upcoming games such as the World Cup qualifiers.
“So far the team, which arrived in the city of Francistown on Sunday, has prepared well for the Saturday game and all that we need is the support from the 12th player to come rally behind the boys and make sure they bag the three points,” he said. ENDS
