Construction of the long awaited Tsabong Mini Stadium, which has been sluggish due to litigation and other challenges, is now back on track standing at 75 per cent completion rate.
This was said by Tsabong District Council Chairperson, Hendrick Jacobs during a full council session on Tuesday.
“I am happy to announce that this project is now back on track with the progress now at 75 per cent,” the chairperson said.
The buildings component of the project, he said, stood at an overall progress of 80 per cent, adding that the project was unbundled into smaller projects to benefit more local contractors.
Jacobs said construction of one ablution block and one Kiosks block was complete.
He said the council had terminated construction of change rooms block because of unsatisfactory progress by the contractor. “The project progress was only 56 per cent at termination and now the tender for completion of this project will be advertised during the month of June and will be reserved of contractors in Tsabong district only,” he said.
Jacobs divulged that Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture had availed an additional P1 million for construction of the second ablution block.
Also, he said, the tender which would be reserved for contractors in Tsabong district, would be advertised in June. He said construction of the stadium boundary wall was delayed by litigation.
On other infrastructure development projects in the district, Jacobs said backlog eradication was in progress at McCarthy’s Rust Primary School adding that facilities developed as part of the project was a classroom block, toilet block, LA2 Semi-detached staff house and one LA2 staff house.
He told councilors that the project was unbundled to benefit two citizen contractors instead of one, adding that remedial measures had been put into place to expedite completion.
He said during the current financial year a classroom block and one LA2 staff house would be built at Sam McKenzie Primary. ENDS
