Winner of the First Division South league, who will get automatic promotion to the Botswana Premier League, will be known in the final games.
The Saturday results of week 21 gave Crackit City Polar, Matebele, VTM and Notwane an opportunity to take the league title on the last day.
Following Crackit City Polar’s 6-0 demolition of Black Rangers and Matebele’s 1-0 defeat of Young Stars, the two teams are tied at 41 points. However, Crackit City Polar have a better goal difference.
VTM and Notwane occupy third and fourth spots respectively, both with 40 points. Notwane defeated Flamingo Santos 3-0, while VTM suffered a 0-1 defeat at the hands of Matebejana.
In a post-match interview, Notwane coach, Thaloba Nthaga said he was happy to have gotten the three points.
Though starting the game on a positive note and getting early goals and controlling the first half, coach Nthaga believed that his team could have scored more goals.
“We are faced with a predicament and therefore scoring goals will go a long way in rescuing our situation,” he said.
He said the situation was out of control particularly that the other three teams equally had a chance to win.
“All we have to do it to win our last game ad hope for a miracle to happen and be at our advantage. We must go and prepare, win the last game and see what ultimately happens,” he said.
Notwane scored two goals in the first 20 minutes of the match and sealed their victory with the third goal in the second half.
Despite controlling the midfield with positive transition into the opposition half, Flamingo Santos failed to get the goals.
Meanwhile, coach Stanley Mwanga of Flamingo Santos said, despite playing well in the first half, it was unfortunate for his team to concede two early goals.
Mwanga said as the league came to a close, he would say the team performed averagely well.
However, he was concerned that his team conceded a lot of goals.
He said despite losing points, surprisingly his side managed to get points from most of the teams that were doing well.
On a balance of probabilities, Mwanga said a team that played well on the day scored goals and managed to win the match.
He was hopeful that the team would do better in future. ENDS
