Nominated councillor, Modiri Lucas, on Monday donated a football kit and boots to Francistown Excellent Boys club.

Handing over the donation to the club, courtesy of Modiri Charity Foundation, Lucas said the foundation was formed with the sole responsibility to change lives of the disadvantaged members of society.

“After realising the good performance by the Francistown Excellent Boys in Block 1  in the second division north league, I have decided to extend a helping hand by buying a kit and soccer boots to boost the boy’s morals,” said Lucas.

He was hopeful that the donation would bring dignity to the team and boost its winning spree, adding that the foundation was also engaged in other charity works such as donating wheelchairs in Francistown’s Block 1 location.

“When the players are wearing the same kit, it instils unity among the team and enhances their confidence,” he added.

On other issues, Lucas said  football could triumph if managed properly, adding that Francistown had talented players.

He was hopeful that Francistown Excellent Boys would produce feeder players to the national team.

Also, Councillor Lucas was concerned that teams in Francistown were facing a severe challenge of financial resources due to a lack of sponsors.

He, therefore, called on the business community to come forth with sponsorship and give support to the teams.

Francistown Excellent Boys president, Edward Seabe, concurred that lack of financial resources remained the team’s primary challenge.

Seabe said the team had talented players as evidenced by its performance in the first round of the second division north league by obtaining position three.

He said the team would start its second round next week and there was no doubt that it would top the log if things could go as planned.

“I say this because the team has been doing very well since its formation in 2020 when it scooped position two in the league,” he added. The event also saw four teams being Mighty Kings FC, Future Stars FC, Zone Master Social Club and BUB Shooting Stars each being donated a soccer ball. ENDS
