Crack IT City Polar halt Matebele title charge

17 Apr 2023

Crackit City Polar fondly known as 'The Students' inflicted a painful blow to Matebele FC’s Debswana First Division South league title charges.

It was back to back victory for Crackit City Polar after claiming Kuka Ntsu’s scalp in the first round after a 2-1 victory.

On Sunday afternoon, Ghanaian player Mutawaki Abubakah  struck a last gap winner to send the home fans into wild raptures. The victory lifts The Students to 35 points and just two points shy off the top spot.

Despite the painful loss, Matebele took off from where they left off last weekend after a hard fought 2-1 victory against Matebejana FC.

They pressed decently and made countless forward movements into their opponent’s danger area.

They played good football in the opening round and put the possession to good use but lacked conviction to take the lead. It was goalless at the break.

The second spell saw an end to end attack from both teams with numerous moments of frustrations from players of not being able to find the back of the net despite a good passing game.

With a few minutes left on the clock it was Abubakah’s pile drive that separated the two teams.

In other FDSL played over the weekend, Mochudi Centre Chiefs slipped further down the log table after suffering a 1-2 defeat against Notwane FC.

It was yet another sweet victory and straight forth clean sheet for VTM’s new gaffer, Leutlwetse Tshireletso when he beat Young Stars by a solitary goal.

Black Rangers who are still chasing their first victory in as many as 18 games played so far, suffered another embarrassing 0-4 defeat in Mmankgodi.

Tlokweng United beat Broadhurst United 2-1 while Matebejana put four past Flamengo Santo’s 2.
