In an interview after the tournament, Gare highlighted that government believed that sport had potential to create employment.
However, he said the budget was limited to fully support sport, hence the need for leaders to assist where possible.
“What we did here shows people that sport is not only about recreation but could meaningfully contribute to the economy.
A good number of traders managed to sell their products here during these two days,” he said.
He said such events should be held from time to time resources permitting, adding that it would also support the government’s efforts of using sport as an alternative to employment creation.
Gare pointed out that such as other areas with teams in the premier league, they also intended to pull resources together and have a team to represent Moshupa in the elite league.
“We now have a stadium, hence the need for us to also have a team that would compete at a higher level. We are not only talking about football, but other sporting codes like netball,” he added.
For his part Ronald Lekokoma from Moshupa/Manyana constituency office said they were happy with the overall delivery of the tournament, thanking all those who played part in ensuring that the event was a success.
He said sport kept the residents busy and that reduced social ills such as crime.
“During the holidays, crime rates usually increase but if we spend our holidays like we did during Easter, I believe we would experience reduced crime,” he said. ENDS
