Rain disrupts Ramotswa football tournament final

A highly competitive final match between Supremes Social Club and Senegal Estate social club was called off at half time due to inclement weather.

The teams played for a greater part of the game in the driving rain but the waterlogged pitch made play rather difficult as the showers intensified.

Supremes social club who had won all their preliminary matches were leading 1-0 when the referee was forced to stop the final fixture of the Ramotswa Constituency Football tournament.

In their opening fixture Supremes beat MOB XI 6-0, went to the quarterfinals and inched past Shinkisha with a 2-1 win before setting a semifinal berth with Super Dolphins and won 4-0. Their opponents Senegal Estate beat Republic Social Club 2-1, Bluetooth 2-1 and won 5-1 against Simultus in the semifinals.

One of the organisers of the annual tournament Thobo Selebogo said they were impressed by the overall preparations of the tournament and the intention was to make it bigger and better in future.

He said due to the postponement of the final game they were planning to host the rematch on the last weekend of April.

Ramotswa Mmember of Parliament,  Mr Lefoko Moagi pledged P25 000 towards the tournament.

He is also expected to hand over soccer balls and cones to all Botswana Football Association (BFA) affiliated clubs from the constituency.

Ramotswa Constituency Football Tournament was established in 2020 and so far had successfully hosted six tournaments.

According to organisers the aim of the tournament was to ensure that young people had safe and enjoyable festive period.
