Kweneng region empowers coaches

05 Apr 2023

Kweneng Regional Football Association intends to improve the standard of the game in the region by equipping coaches with the right knowledge and training to produce competent players.

In collaboration with Botswana Football Association (BFA), the region has started a 16-day Class C coaching course for interested individuals, but without any certification.

The course is composed of 120 hours of course work with only eight hours of field training per day.

The regional association chairperson, Vincent Mafutha, said the course would prepare participants to develop football at the grassroots level in his region and improve the standard of football.

“The course will help us to see more teams being promoted into the first division and ultimately the elite league,” said Mafutha.

He said if coaches produced players who were technically astute they could play any system which would contribute in building a strong national team.

He also noted that technical and tactical skills distinguished players and gave coaches the tools needed to create game plans and to adjust them on the fly.

Botswana Football Association president, Maclean Letshwiti, said he was worried that coaches dominating the elite league came from outside the country, adding the course would increase the number of local coaches.

He urged the course participants to go through all the structures of the game from regional leagues to the highest. Ends
