GU women too hot for Prisons

Gaborone United (GU) hammered Prisons 3-0 in the DTCB Women Football League Division One match at Lekidi East on Saturday.
Though GU missed instrumental players in Kelebogile Magaga and Annah Sechane due to injuries, the team’s resolve from the start of the game showed that it wanted an early goal to unsettle opponents.
However, their efforts were frustrated by Prisons’ solid defense.
Equally, Prisons also launched some good attacks but GU’s goalkeeper, Tlamelo Pheresi became their worst enemy, disallowing them any chance to score.
Conversely, after numerous attempts at goal, the 38th minute saw GU make an attack that drove the last ball to the ‘educated feet’ of Keitumetse ‘Ben-Ten’ Dithebe, who did not waste time but put it past Prisons’ keeper.
A goal was what GU wanted to unsettle Prisons camp, but the latter were unmoved and continued surging forward looking for an equaliser, but lack of composure in the box cost them.
The game went for recess with GU leading one-nil.
After the break, both teams continued to attack and it was GU’s Dithebe who managed to visit the opponents’ net and scored her side’s second goal in the 56th minute.
It was from GU’s second goal that Prisons felt they had had enough and resorted to the defensive mode at least to keep the score margin minimal, but that did not work for them as Masego Koboto frustrated such efforts and scored the third for GU in the 89th minute.
Frustration was written all over Prisons’ coach, Quelch Moroke as he admitted in a post-match interview that they made a lot of mistakes, which GU capitalised on.
“We played well in the first half and managed to contain GU as we frequented their box, but we missed a lot of scoring opportunities,” Moroke said.
For GU’s coach, Innocent Morapedi, the game was not a walk in the park, but he remained resolute that his team would win despite all odds.
“People believed we are a wounded buffalo after our loss against Double Action. Usually given a chance, a wounded buffalo will fight until the bitter end, that is exactly what we did,” Morapedi said.
He also saluted players who replaced those nursing injuries for playing their hearts out.
Meanwhile, in other games played on Saturday, Double Action continued their winning streak as they beat UB Kicks 2-0 courtesy of Balotlhanyi Johanes’ brace, Township Rollers beat Wonder Girls 2-1 while FC Ambassadors lost 0-1 to Security Systems. ENDS
