Kutamogoree celebrates princess

Residents of Kutamogoree have commended government for coming up with the Affirmative Action framework for the social upliftment of Rural Area Dwellers (RADs).

Celebrating the Miss RADP Botswana 2022 second princess, Lesego Kebadile recently, Kgosi Motsamai Kgosi of Kutamogoree said the affirmative action had helped in inspiring the youth to showcase their talents not only in of beauty pageants, but in other areas such as a sports.

Speaking at the celebration ceremony, Kgosi Kgosi said through the action, Ms Kebadile, a Kutamogoree native, had successfully managed to partake in the beauty pageant from village level to national level.

He said the affirmative action had become a morale booster and remained viable to develop the remote communities, particularly young people who were eager to take advantage of government programmes to uplift their lives.

Narrating her success stary as a beauty queen, Ms Kebadile said 2022 was her best year as a young person from Kutamogoree.

She said she was crowned Miss Kutamogoree and moved and later emerged the winner at Tutume Sub-district.

She went on to compete with other queens from seven sub-districts that made up the Central District Council (CDC), where she was crowned the queen once more, which gave her an opportunity to represent CDC at the national pageant held Gaborone.

“The competition at the nationals was way tougher, but through confidence I managed to do well, I became the second princess,” she said, adding that she cherished the title so much, considering the toughness of the competition.

For her part, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Ms Talita Monnakgotla commended the pioneers of Miss RADP pageant, saying it aimed at encouraging young people in rural areas to showcase their talents and turn their lives around.

Ms Monnakgotla said the pageant started in 2013 as a tool for gender empowerment under the Affirmative Action Framework policy.

She urged Ms Kebadile to be an exemplary to other young people and be the ambassador of the pageant in the RADs communities. ENDS
