Holy Ghost shocked Township Rollers as the two teams played to a one-all draw in an entertaining premier league game in Molepolole on Wednesday.
Rocking at the relegation zone, the Mmopane-based Holy Ghost pinned their hopes on the newly appointed head coach, Phillimon Makhwengwe, to come to the rescue for a ship that seemed to be at the verge of sinking.
And Township Rollers was seeking to buckle up as the campaign for the league title got even harder.
Both teams had many chances during the first half with Rollers dominating the first 10 minutes.
However, the home team piled more pressure on what was deemed a resolute defense.
The holy boys remained compact most of the time, denying Mapalastina chances to attack.
Holy Ghost rattled Popa with a Misani Thupa goal in the 34th minute and this upped the tempo with the visitors looking for an equaliser.
The second half saw rejuvenated sides, with both teams matching pound to pound in the search for a goal.
In the lure to get back into the game, Rollers introduced Tlhalefo Molebatsi, Motsholetsi Sikele and Terdius Uiseb for Jackson Lesole, Ototeng Dintwa and Siyanda Ngubo respectively.
The substitution breathed life into the visitors game, with Popa now pressing harder for an equaliser.
They finally nodded home through Molebatsi’s scorcher to get his side back into the game.
The tempo changed with both teams visiting goal posts battling for a winning goal, ending the game with two sides having scored one goal apiece.
Holy Ghost assistant coach, Daniel Jim, said he was impressed with his boys’ performance.
He said they had aimed for a point and that maximum points would have been a bonus and that they were now focusing on the next game.
“We have lost crucial points. We had to close the gap between us and Orapa United so that we can challenge for the league title. However, I am very ecstatic that my boys were able to come from behind and got an equaliser,” said Rollers Head coach Sergio Traguil.
Township rollers remain on position four with 29 points after winning seven games, nine draws and one loss.
Their next assignment is against BDF XI billed for Sunday, while Holy Ghost take on another relegation threatened side, Extension Gunners, in what is anticipated to be a mouthwatering encounter.
The holy boys remain at the bottom of the log having secured eight points with only one win, five draws and 10 defeats. ENDS
