BFA trims players to 30

The Botswana Football Association (BFA) national executive committee has reduced the number of players a club can register for the 2023/2024 season.
The number of players has been reduced from 40 to 30.
Addressing a press conference in Gaborone on Tuesday, BFA chief executive officer, Mfolo Mfolo said the association allowed teams to register up to 40 players during the peak of COVID-19 to cater for situations where teams were affected by the pandemic.
“Now we have come to a point where we have to live with COVID-19 and it is now manageable,” he said, adding that five should be development players as it was the norm.
Mfolo also said amateur clubs and women football clubs would be allowed to continue to register 40 players as per Article 5.2 of the regulations and the status and transfer of players.
In other issues, Mfolo said the executive committee has resolved to pardon Setete Phuthego and Tebogo Kamati who were suspended last year.
Phuthego is a former BFA employee while Kamati is a member of the national executive committee. They were suspended for transgressions that hindered the FIFA connect.
“Their suspensions have been lifted indefinitely without any prejudice,” said Mfolo, adding that Kamati had assumed his duties as a member of the executive committee and Phuthego was free to participate in football activities.
Mfolo said they had established their top priorities and one of them was the need to build grounds.
He said they had four blocks and that they must have a playing field in each of the blocks, adding that in Maun they already had land and that the project could start as soon as FIFA released the funds. ENDS
