Magosi win gets Nare lifeline
20 Feb 2023
Mochudi Centre Chiefs ended a string of loses when they beat Holy Ghost 2-0 in the Orange FA Cup game.
The comfortable victory against one of their hoodoo teams also lifted the dark veil that had overwhelmed coach Daniel Nare following calls from supporters to step down due to Chief’s dismal performance in the first division league campaign.
Before travelling to the Holy Park on Sunday, Magosi, as Chiefs are fondly called, had endured disappointing losses against Matebele and Gabane Santos.Nare’s charges started the game with hope of advancing to the next round of the closely contested tournament and a goal in each half from exciting midfielder Julius Montsho and Tebogelo Malebogo were enough to push Chiefs to the next round.
Montsho rose above all his markers and put a looping header past Katlego Mbise to open the account for Magosi with just 20 minutes on the clock.
The goal breathed life into the supporters, who came in good numbers torally behind their team.
With confidence restored, Magosi pushed upfront in large numbers seeking a second goal.
With the game beginning to balance out at the beginning of the second stanza, Malebogo made it two after a brilliant count attack play.
He rounded Mbise and fired into an empty net after the Holy Boys failed to clear their lines.
In a post-match interview, Nare said the team was still sorting out combinations and were playing like martyrs, knowing that getting the desired results was a process.
He said his plan was to go as far as they possibly could in the FA cup and prayed that veteran striker, Kekaetswe ‘Mara’ Moloi, who was recently released by Matebele, gets into perfect shape to help his old team.
In other Orange FA cup matches played on Sunday Lokgwabe United beat Kang Royal Stallion 2-1, Matebele continued that good run when they walloped Tlokweng United 4-2, Broadhurst United also scored 4 goals against Naughty Boys’ 2 at the Tlokweng VDC ground while URI Black Forest beat Taung Young Strikers 1-0.
