Botswana squashes Kenya
08 Feb 2023
Botswana Senior Women’s softball team yesterday thrashed Kenya 13-0 in the ongoing World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC).
The home side garnered the much-needed points to soothe their bruised ego, which they suffered at the hands of South Africa on Tuesday, losing 3-9.
The loss thwarted Botswana’s efforts to emerge as overall winners of the qualifying stage.
Botswana women started with the neighbouring South Africa on a high note, batting first and registering a run.
However, their opponents were equally determined, registering three runs in the same inning to take the lead.
Despite coming back in the fourth inning, registering two runs to equalise the score, South Africa reacted immediately with two runs to retain their lead.
South Africa wrapped the match in the sixth inning by registering four more runs, thereby stretching the score line beyond the opponents reach.
The Botswana team had, however, started the campaign on a positive note by defeating Lesotho 24-0 in their first match earlier Tuesday.
In other games played on the opening day, South Africa beat Kenya 9-1, while Kenya defeated Lesotho 10-0. BOPA
