Peacemakers fail to contain Tafic

07 Feb 2023

Tafic on Sunday came from behind to hammer Bobonong outfit, Peacemakers 3-1 in a First Division North fixture played at Old Francistown Stadium.

Three goals, all scored in the second stanza, ensured Machimenyenga finished the first round of the Debswana First Division league with aplomb.

The game started on a low note with lacklustre performance displayed by the two sides, especially Tafic attackers who were wasteful.

Just 16 minutes into the match, Tafic’s skilful Nicolas Batlang blasted over the bar to the chagrin of the Francistown-based outfit supporters.

Peacemakers drew first blood through a well-taken penalty by the hard-tackling Edwin Baphare during injury time to ensure the Bobonong side go into recess with a one goal lead.

However, some calculated changes by Tafic think tank brought in highly-agile Montsi Dichaba who turned things around as the home side mounted pressure on the visitors.

Efforts by Tafic, who fought like wounded lions, paid off midway through the second half, when Yashe Dambe tapped in to level the score.

The Francistown outfit was now on song and seemed poised to cause a massive upset for the visitors who were certainly giving up the fight.

Dambe who had earlier missed a couple of goal-scoring opportunities struck yet again from outside the box to score a beauty and his second goal of the match in the 84th minute. With the writing on the wall, Tafic scored its third goal through striker Modise Modipe to bag the maximum three points and make sure they finished the first round perched at the top of the log.

Tafic coach, Mohambi Saulosi, was happy with the results and promised entertaining football come the second round.

His Peacemakers counterpart, William Motsamai said the best team had won the duel and that his side would go back to the drawing board and prepare for the second round. ENDS
