Wonder Girls Football Club received a baptism of fire from Gaborone United, which thrashed them 6-0 in a DTCB Women’s Football League played at Lekidi on Saturday.

The six goal thriller was courtesy of Masego Koboto’s hat trick, Kelebogile Magaga, Lone Gaofetoge and Keitumetse ‘Ben Ten’ Dithebe.

Despite being scored an avalanche of goals, Wonder Girls were a marvel to watch, more especially in the first half and credit should go to their goal keeper, Doris Motshegwe whom, on numerous occasions, dealt with Ben-Ten’s threatening balls.

Gaborone United coach, Innocent Morapedi said he was happy with his teams fighting spirit, adding that Wonder Girls came determined to upset his team, but his defence was equal to the task.

“I repeat, we are in a mission, and our vision is to collect maximum points.

Yes, games are different, sometimes we will have hurdles, but when opportunities come like it was the case with Wonder Girls, we must utilise them,” he said.

Morapedi further said after they heard that other teams had scored four goals, they found it prudent to up their game.

“But this is our first game of the season, obviously there are lot of discrepancies here and there.

It is also a new term playing together,” he said.

Wonder Girls coach, Tapaphiwa Gaebolae said the fact that they were beaten with a big margin meant that they had to go back and try some new combinations at training.

She, however, said she was proud with the team’s performance given that a lot of them were making a debut in the league.

“We will rectify our mistakes in our next assignment.

We will come back a better side, the league is still fresh, so we just have to believe in ourselves,” she said.

Meanwhile, Gaborone United will face Prisons while Wonder Girls will take Township Rollers in their next fixtures.

In other games played on Saturday, Double Action started the season on a higher note as they welcomed FC Ambassadors to the high league with a 4-0 margin.

Prisons also sent a clear warning to their competitors by beating UB Kicks 4-0, Security Systems also earned three valuable points by humiliating Township Rollers 4-0. ENDS
