President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has pledged a Rolex watch as a prize for the Super League Legends fund raising raffle.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Super League Legends spokesperson, Jim Kelly, said the President would also be the guest speaker at the organisation’s fund raising dinner to be held at Boipuso Hall on February 25.

He explained that Rolex was an expensive watch, and he was confident that it would make a huge difference in their quest to raise funds.

“We will also have South African legend, Doctor Khumalo, who will be the motivational speaker,” he said.

Kelly, who is a former Extension Gunners goal keeper said Khumalo was a cornerstone in the South African masters, a similar structure to the Super League Legends.

Super League Legends chairperson, Freddie Ramodise, said the organisation intended to support former football players in Botswana.

He said the creation of the organisation was motivated by the need to address challenges faced by retired players, particularly those who played in the super league.

“Our aim is to create support system for these legends and improve livelihoods through various initiatives, and we believe that by operating as a cooperative society, we can empower our members by providing them with life skills, training and financial support,” he said.

Ramodise pointed out that their intention was to set up an office, well equipped with the necessary resources amongst them mobility vehicle, furniture and personnel to manage it.

He said their goal was to reach out to many footballers, noting that their plan was to establish satellite regional branches across the country as that would allow them to take their services closer to football legends.

“In addition to providing support to our members, we also aim to participate in football activities at all levels around the country. We believe that will not only allow us to give back to the sport that had given us so much, but that will also inspire the next generation of footballers,” he said.

Ramodise said he was aware that many of their members had faced financial constraints in their post football careers and therefore the organisation would help alleviate the challenges.

He said they would work with relevant stakeholders to establish sustainable livelihood programmes and offer financial assistance to those in need. ENDS
