Kareng horse race organisers have been applauded for staging an exciting competition that in turn united Kareng community and nearby villages.

In an interview, one of the supporters, Kgosi Kazuu Mbakareratjike of Bodibeng was happy about the turn up, saying it showed that the race was close to the hearts of the community.

Kgosi Mbakareratjike also appreciated that the event had become part of the tradition as it aimed to preserve and advance the culture of the Ngamiland community as a whole.

The event organiser, Riundjua Zauana hailed the event as a success considering its following and that it had also shown positive growth and continued to be one of the most exciting epic activity in the village, especially during holidays.

“Horse racing has become part of the rich local tradition. We have inherited it from our forefathers who staged it for years and we saw it fit to maintain their legacy and now we hold it annually and it has become a cultural festival,” he said.

Zauana also appreciated that the event created economic opportunities to benefit the locals from Kareng and neighbouring settlements.

However, he lamented that they were struggling to secure sponsors and therefore pleaded with the business community to come on board.

“We intend to improve the event by building horse stables and improve the tracks at the ground,” he said.
