Tournaments play critical role in nation building - Dikoloti

Football tournaments are able to positively affect a nation and unite people under a common goal, thus increasing the strength and unity of the country.
As such it was reassuring to witness Digawana community rallying behind their team till the end of Dikoloti Annual Festive Tournament, a trait described as triumph for sport.
Speaking during an interview after the seventh edition of the tourney in Digawana on New Year’s eve Mmathethe/Molapowabojang MP Dr Edwin Dikoloti said sport often deemed a'universal language' brought people together, despite their different culture, language or gender, origin, background, religious beliefs and economic status.
He said sport had unique ability to go beyond national, political, cultural and socio-economic limitations and barriers and by so doing creating social success amongst people by bringing coaches, players, spectators and volunteers around communities together under a common goal.
Dr Dikoloti said such tournaments came with economic benefits for hosting communities, adding the football tournament also helped the young ones learn how to distinguish between effort and ability.
The area MP said it also enhanced self-discipline and the awareness of the value of preparation gauged by difference in their performance.
He said the tournament would provide an unparalleled model for dealing with disappointment and misfortune, pointing that it gave players an opportunity to put in extra time on fitness or work on specific weaknesses in their game.
He said football helped older teens learn that a confident attitude have a bearing on their performance, and that they have some control over their attitude hence improving their game, while learning the fundamental lesson of sacrificing immediate gratification for long-term gain. “Our organised tournament projects that I sponsor offers players an opportunity to meet a variety of players from different backgrounds.
Players from public, private and local community clubs come together in a common enterprise, crossing socio-economic and ethnic lines, so that over the time all players broaden their sense of how other people live. The genuinely multicultural environment is of tremendous importance in our polarized society,” he said
He said playing for an organisation or a community gave individuals a chance to feel that they were making a genuine contribution to a larger group.
Dr Dikoloti sponsored Digawana tournament at the tune of P45 000 and highlighted that over the years the tourney unearthed talent that saw youngsters joining development sides of elite teams, adding that the area was blessed with a lot of talent that produced national team players in the likes of Tshepo ‘Talk-Talk’ Motlhabankwe and Mosimanegape 'Twizzer' Ramohibidu, among others. Molapowabojang West councilor Mr Alex Ramatshogwane said people were thirsty and hungry for festivities after COVID 19 ravage as they wanted freedom.
He said people in his jurisdiction celebrated the festive season peacefully as they were jolly, lovely and showed kindness to one another.Ends
