Ramotswa hosts six-day football tourney

Siga Grounds in Ramotswa will host a football tournament from December 24 to January 2.

In an interview, coordinator of the event, Thobo Selebogo, said the six-day tournament was intended to ensure a safe and enjoyable festive season for the community as well as football lovers.

About 12 social football clubs from Ramotswa constituency are expected to participate in the tournament.

Selebogo said key to hosting the tournament was to continue with social responsibility by donating food hampers to 20 homesteads within the constituency, which Digital Hype and Fire Magics Investments had already pledged.

He added that they also wanted to engage with the community and sensitise residents on issues of gender based violence (GBV), drug and substance abuse.

“We also want to promote and encourage a safe festive season as well as try to reduce road accidents because people will not have to drive long distances to attend football tournaments in neighbouring villages,” he said.

On one hand, Selebogo said stalls would be sold at P300.

Meanwhile, an award ceremony would be held January 2 where some companies have pledged to sponsor individuals according to their arrears of interest under the top goalscorer, player of the tournament, players’ player of the tournament, goalkeeper and coach of the tournament categories.

“These are life changing awards and recipients will not get money but companies will sponsor each in their different areas of interest,” Selebogo said.

Companies who have pledged sponsorship, he said, included Ramodisa Project, Cleaning Wizards, Ticano Group for the three categories of top goalscorer, player of the tournament, players’ player of the tournament.

Selebogo said the area Member of Parliament, Lefoko Moagi was their main sponsor and would sponsor two categories of coach and goalkeeper.

He added that the MP would also award each club a branded stretch tent, two balls and two telescopic flasks.

Selebogo said two teams in Dikakapa Social Club from Mogobane and Otse Masters Social from Otse comprising the elderly, would curtain raise the tournament and each would receive a gazebo and a ball to appreciate their participation.

A P10 gate fee would be charged and would be shared equally among the 12 teams. ENDS
