Jwaneng Galaxy registered a 1-0 victory over Orapa United in a premier league game in Jwaneng on Saturday.
The game started on a low note, but gained momentum as it progressed.
Galaxy had an upper hand in the first half, but failed to capitalise on clear cut chances.
Ball retention, transition, receive and pass mode and build-ups of both teams were of first class quality.
Galaxy striker, Wendell Rudath, gave his team a splendid shape upfront but Orapa United’s strong defence was equal to the challenge.
Galaxy had an opportunity to take an early lead but lacked astuteness upfront.
It was an action packed first half as both teams tried to get the better of each other but failed to produce goals.
Galaxy had numerous chances in the second half, but Orapa United’s goal minder, Lesenya Malapela thwarted their efforts.
Galaxy’s offensive player, Daniel Msendami, who came in the second half broke the ice in the dying minutes of the game to ensure three points for his team.
In a post-match interview, Orapa United coach, Gadimang Tiiso, said his plan was to cut passing lines and spaces of opponents, acknowledging that he was playing a tough side.
He said his charges were good, transitioned swiftly to run behind Galaxy defense, but there was need for his side to make proper runs to beat the offside trap.
Tiiso decried that his side made a defensive mistake that resulted in a goal in the dying minutes of the game.
His team used the 4-3-3 formation in its quest to get the better of Galaxy, while the opponents used the 4-4-2 formation.
His desire was to make it difficult for Galaxy to penetrate spaces and narrow their prospects of creating clear cut chances to score.
For his part, Galaxy gaffer, Morena Ramoreboli, said this was not an easy game.
He said his opponents played too deep and dropped middle fielders to form a strong defence in the second stanza forcing his charges to play rotation football, which was not easy when energy levels had plummeted.
Ramoreboli said he was excited to have won the game, but however conceded that there was still a lot of work to be done to ensure his team reached efficiency levels a.
He said when a player got into a certain area of the pitch it would require him to shoot, cross, dribble or pass the ball but there was a mix up in decision making which needed to be rectified.
He said such could not be corrected in just one match but would require a couple of time to fine tune it. ENDS
