Blue Birds came back from behind to thrash Tonota FC 2-1 in a First Division North League game in Tonota on Saturday.

The mouthwatering encounter between the two Tonota-based rivals was also used to launch the northern league sponsors namely; Skip Hire and Security System Botswana.

Thabologo Motswere of Tonota FC opened the scoring sheet in the 18th minute after receiving a telling pass from Gaone Japane.

However, Blue Birds were a determined lot in the second half and were rewarded in the 65th minute through Advocate Dabila’s well taken shot from outside the box.

Tshephang Tsie nearly increased the lead three minutes later after receiving a pass from Solomon Simeon, but his goal was ruled off-side.

The decision did not deter Blue Birds as they pressed on against rivals who returned fire with fire winning several corner kicks in the process.

During the dying minutes, Keolopile Marope put the last nail on the coffin with a header to register the second goal that secured victory for Blue Birds.

Conceding defeat, Tonota FC coach, Mpho Njadiwe, said the loss was a learning curve for his boys.

He attributed the loss to lack of fitness, adding the first half belonged to his team.

He gave credit to goalkeeper, Thabang Golekanye, whom he said managed to save the day for his side.

However, he said the second half was a ‘disaster’ for his boys as they failed to convert chances.

Blue Birds coach Moloi credited his team for snatching a win in a very tough game.

He said, however, that their opponents showed determination to win, but the Gods of football were not on their side.

After the game, Francistown Regional Football Association (FRAFA) vice president, Maokaneng Bontshetse announced that the region had secured sponsorship from Skip Hire and Security System.

He said, however, that the unveiling of the sponsorship would be done in the near future by the president of Botswana Football Association (BFA), Maclean Letshwiti.

Bontshetse said FRAFA understood the importance of sponsors in growing the sport.

“The technical sponsorship will be revealed at the unveiling ceremony,” he added.  Ends
