Gaborone United triumphs over Holy Ghost

Botswana Premier League defending champions Gaborone United triumphed over the new comers Holy Ghost 2-0 on Saturday at Molepolole Stadium.
GU’s duo of Onkabetse Makgantai and Mpho Kgaswane were Holy Ghost’s undoing, scoring the two goals in the 29th and 54th minute respectively.
They brought uneasiness to the Holy Ghost defenders as who had to save their team numerous times from embarrassment.
The new comers, who seemed to revere their opponents sat back and flowed with the wave of the game.
Like lions marauding over a helpless buffalo, GU continued their onslaught on Holy Ghost and gave them no chance to create goal scoring opportunities as their defence remained solid and proved to be tough to break.
The combination of Mothusi Johnson, Thato Kebue and Kennedy Amutenya proved to be a hard nut to crack as they upturned Holy Ghost opportunities.
Holy Ghost trusted striker Ishmael Amponsah found himself between a rock and a hard place as he was closed-in on all sides, being denying the chance to make any impact to unsettle GU defence.
Holy Ghost defence, which was under pressure in the second half, brought more work and GU substitutions Sizwe Twala and Tshepo Malgas with the combination of Thatayaone Ramatlapeng and Thatayaone Kgamanyane had a bearing on the newcomers as evidenced by the defending champion’s ball possession and chances created.
With God on their side, Holy Ghost managed to hold GU to only two goals despite the avalanche of goal scoring opportunities, which GU missed to their disappointment.
Holy Ghost defenders Kenosi Semako, Patrick Dikgang and Michael Pillar worked over time to contain GU, who seemed determined to score more goals.
Holy Ghost Coach Rapelang Tsatsilebe said he had a team of young and inexperienced players who had recently joined the elite league.
The coach said he believed his boys would come around as the league heats up, and also by learning from their mistakes in the past games to win more games.
Tsatsilebe said he was proud of his boys and believed they would become a better side as they were going to gain experience with time.
He said none functional distributor cost them the game, as it brought problems for them, but said they remained adamant about the boys advancing to reputable players.
GU Assistant Coach Pontsho Moloi said despite their win the game was below their expectation even though they took their chances and scored.
He said they should have scored more goals, but their strikers were a bit casual, an area they intend to work on.
Coach Moloi said they were happy with the outcome and would continue to work hard to win more upcoming games. ENDS
