Participants attending the Sport for Life movement training in Gumare have been urged to use the knowledge acquired to grow sport in the district.
Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture coordinator in North West, Tshoganetso Mahupe, made the call at the opening of the four-day training in Gumare on Wednesday.
She said Okavango had rich talent that needed to be nurtured.
She said the Sport for Life training came at an opportune time as lack of sporting clubs and resources in the Okavango area hindered talent development.
Mahupe said some teams in Okavango lacked management skills while some were unregistered, therefore the Sport for Life training would come in handy.
For his part, the Sport for Life Coordinator, Molefhi Obenne, said their movement was found in six countries including Botswana.
He said the training would empower the participants with knowledge on creation of clubs, promotion and marketing, utilisation of resources, event preparation and how to make events on zero budget.
In an interview, Onkarabile Elisha of City Kings FC in Gumare said she hoped to use the knowledge gained from the training to improve management of their team.
Another participant, Dolly Lehitile, who aspired to form an athletics club targeting out-of-school youth said she hoped the training would help her with the necessary skills.
A teacher from Okavango Junior Secondary School, Kuhungera Ben, said being equipped with administration skills would help guide pupils on how to grow their talent in sport post academics.
About 32 participants from different areas of Okavango attended the training, which is expected to end on November 5. Ends
