Kenyans dominate Run Maun

Kenyan athletes dominated the inaugural Run Maun Marathon on Saturday. 

Runners were expected to compete either in the 42.2km, 21km, 10km races or 5km for fun.

Following cancellation of the 42.2km race, the Kenyans opted to compete in the 21km where they dominated both male and female categories.

Under the female category, Sheila Saina was crowned a champion while Gaone Bathoeng and Boikhutso Bakhwa both from Botswana Defence Force (BDF) Athletics Club settled for position two and three respectively.

Peter Limo clinched the title under the male category and his country man, Albert Kangori got position two while Godiraone Nthompe of BDF Club came third.

In the 10km race senior men, Montshiwa Raokgwathise of Orapa Athletics Club won the race ahead of Sonny Matho of BDF and Oletile Keoagile of University of Botswana.

In the women’s category, Kitsiso Joseph of BDF outran her opponents and was trailed by club member, Kelebogile Bile who was ahead of South Africa’s Velimah Nkuna.

Another Kenyan, Gladys Cheruiyot was the overall winner of the 10km race under the veteran female category while Boitumelo Molefe of Kopong emerged victorious in the male veteran category.

Saina expressed disappointment about the cancellation of the 42km race, saying she came prepared for it. 

Limo also shared his disappointment, saying he was psychologically ready for the 42.2km race. Ends
