Spinners rock extravaganza
25 Oct 2022
Smoke painted the Francistown spinning arena on Saturday as powerful roars from BMW car engines permeated the already charged atmosphere.
The raucous cheering from the jubilant crowds reached a fever pitch to welcome the spinning extravaganza following a two-year reprieve occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Some of the highlights of the day came from one of the visiting performers, Bam Mesh, from Venda in South Africa while a local spinner, Goitseone Leepile aka The General raised the bar of the high-octane show held at the Francistown spin arena with his awe-inspiring driving skill.
Other featured locals included Mothusi Alfred, King Joe, Kagiso Nkwebi aka the Magistrate, VMUD real name Thuso Mudongo, Thabang Phiri (Bosphiri), Thabo Mudongo also known as Timpower, and Steven Given, the Ghetto Child.
Right from the outset, spinners displayed absolute control of the cars sending fanatics into wild cheers.
The drivers would get out of the moving car and strike a pose before quickly jumping back into the spinning vehicle.
All these happened at lightning speed and could only be performed by someone who put in a lot of time perfecting the craft.
The high revs, varying motions from circular to sideways, forward and backward were the order of the day and tickled revelers’ fancy.
One of the stunts that sent petrol-heads into a wild frenzy was the stand-still burnout, whereby the driver pulled up the handbrake while simultaneously applying the foot on the brake pedal and accelerating, causing the back and front wheels of the car to spin whilst the vehicle is stationary, creating a lot of smoke- in the process.
One of the fan’s favorites, The General relayed in an interview that he would like to see many young people especially girls become part of the spectacular.
“The management should now focus on women to make spinning more attractive,” he disclosed. ends
