Motswiri retains duathlon title

24 Oct 2022

Shadrack Motswiri of Cycle4Life Cycling Club retained Time Adventure Duathlon Challenge title at Mokolodi Nature Reserve over the weekend.

Motswiri competed in the four stage relay race of 10km trail run, two 15km cycles and 5km trail run in a total time 4:02:43.

Ditiro Coyne came second in 4:02:51.

Motswiri had made his intentions clear from the onset as he started the challenge on a high note, ensuring a gap between him and fellow contenders.

“Today’s race was challenging especially with the markings, which made it easy for one to get lost in the tracks,” Motswiri said.

He said racing with an injury did not derail his plan of re-claiming the title.

“I ran despite a muscle pull for I knew victory was mine. This year’s race was different from the last one in 2019 as I did not record my best time” he said.

Motswiri said the terrain had a few changes, adding ‘it was fast, but good.’

He advised young athletes to do more track training and be committed to the sport.

“I train 16km in most days on track run and a good 10km of cycling,” said Motswiri a seasoned duathlon and triathlon athlete.

Tsela Riders Cycling Club made its presence felt in the junior category winning both position one and two, whilst Everything Is Awesome came in third.

Tsela Riders team one finished on 4:02:43 whilst team two clocked 4:03:07 and Everything is Awesome finished in 4:03:36.

Tsela Riders club team one made of Kgotla Mogasha and Eatile Monowe put a good fight to claim the win ahead of their club members in team two.

“It was a good race. I liked the terrain more and I enjoy running,” Mogasha said.

Monowe, who did the challenge for the second time said this year’s terrain was exciting because the route was marked clearly.

In the female individual category, Anouk van de Geest emerged the winner in 4:02:43, whilst Shirley Mosiakgabo came second with 4:03:37.

The Time Adventure Duathlon Challenge is an annual relay race whose aim is to empower communities through sport and promote fitness.

In the past, proceeds from Time Adventure challenge funded various charity initiatives such as outdoor gym facility as well as partnering with Botswana Disabled Society in its charity endeavours. Ends
