Jwaneng Golf Club dominated the weekend Okavango Human Wildlife Conflict Foundation (OHWCF) charity cup, scooping five prizes out of eight.

Lebo Morebodi scooped the overall winner of the tournament with 44 points as well as the longest drive in the ladies category.

In second place was Onale Tlhogano of Chobe Golf Club with 41 points while third and fourth places went to Godfrey Gorogodo and Tatenda Vimbe both from Jwaneng Golf Club with 41 and 40 points respectively.

Edwin Madigela of Orapa club won the prize for the men’s longest drive while Tlhogano won the prize for the closest pin.
Chobe Golf Club captain, Stephen Griesel appealed for more women to join the sport as it was male dominated.

In an interview, he said the Mowana Golf Club, which was home to the Chobe Golf Club, was challenged by warthogs and baboons. He said the warthogs damaged the lawn by digging it while the baboons ran away with the balls used by players. He said to deter warthogs from damaging the lawn they have fenced T-boxes with electric wires, but that the warthogs attacked the wires when hungry.

Botswana Golf Union (BGU) president, Modiri Phuthego said the union collaborated with the human/wildlife conflict foundation because their objective was in line with the unions programme of taking golf to the people.

He lamented that golf was played by predominately adults and that only few children whose parents were able to sponsor them played the sport. ENDS
