Human wildlife golf charity cup Saturday
12 Oct 2022
Mowana Golf Course will, on Saturday, host the first annual Human Wildlife Conflict Prevention Charity Golf Cup.
In an interview, Okavango Human Wildlife Conflict Foundation (OHWCF) chairperson, Gakemotho Satau said the golf tournament was a collaboration between OHWCF and Botswana Golf Union (BGU).
He said the objective of the charity cup was to raise funds for supporting people injured by wild animals. He said some of the human wildlife conflict victims were faced with a number of challenges and those who were breadwinners were struggling financially.
He appealed to corporates and the public to support the foundation.
Satau said while the aim was to alternate the tournament between Ngami and Chobe, where communities were impacted by the human wildlife conflict, availability of venues will determine where it would take place.
He said OHWCF planned to have the cup included in the Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) local events calendar which was shared globally in order to attract tourists and international stakeholders.
He said players from local clubs around the country and individuals from the corporate world will play during this inaugural cup.
Furthermore, Satau said while the objective of the cup was to raise funds it would also serve as a platform to promote golf as a sport.
He thanked sponsors, adding the foundation was still faced with shortage of resources as it was at infancy. ENDS
