11 Oct 2022

Nhabe Regional Football Association re-elected the previous committee at an annual general meeting (AGM) in Maun on Saturday.

Norman Sebele retained the chairperson seat amassing 39 votes against Kgato Motai’s five votes while Josephat Jackalas beat Balebi Setlolo for vice chairperson with 28 vote against 17.

Maipelo Malatlhe and Kelebogile Sashozi were unopposed, so they retained secretary and treasurer positions respectively.

Malebogo Bojosi and Matshelo Setsile were elected additional members with 30 and 28 votes respectively against Paris Tshenyego with 18 votes.

The sole newly elected member, Tebogo Mogaetsho beat Tlhokomelang Ngaka 28 against 17 votes for the vice secretary position.

Speaking at the AGM, Botswana Football Association (BFA) CEO, Mfolo Mfolo, stated that regions were the lifeline of football because the success of national teams was dependent on football being played at a regional level.

He highlighted that football had regressed due to COVID-19 outbreak and the suspension of school sport.

Mfolo stated that coach education was lacking which was why BFA introduced classes A, B and C for the local league while they awaited CAF to license coaches for international games.

The CEO said they were in the process of developing a policy for Division two League which would be for players aged under 17 only.

He said BFA planned to train administrative instructors in every region, to qualify them for position of general secretary anywhere in the world.

Mfolo implored Nhabe region to work hard at sport development and grow women football so that children from Nhabe region would form part of national teams.

In his remarks, Sebele stated that Nhabe region had grown tremendously over the years due to the commitment displayed by teams.

“We are known to be a peaceful region in football and let’s maintain that good reputation but I challenge all of us to move from our comfort zone and be proactive in our individual roles,” stated Sebele

He said the 2021/22 leagues went well in all the three streams of Nhabe region being Maun, Gumare and Shakawe but expressed dissatisfaction over some administrators who relinquished all the work to coaches to register teams and players.

He said some coaches had taken up the work of administrators by running teams and ordering management around instead of it being the other way around.

This, he said was maladministration hence called every team to have a clear vision that would drive them to be a successful entity. ENDS
