Do not let rejection put you down - DJ fresh

10 Oct 2022

Creative artists have been implored not to let rejection throw them off track.

Addressing a workshop in Ghanzi on Friday, Thato Sikwane aka DJ Fresh, said rejection was part of their game and should be used to fuel careers.

“Our industry needs focus and you should not be derailed by people perceptions,” he stated.

DJ Fresh warned that though mentorship was the bed rock of the arts industry, they should not be copycats, but rather be inspired by their mentors.

He said individual uniqueness could help them be relevant, stating that copycat tendencies could render artists redundant.

He said self-branding was an important aspect of their career because it built one’s reputation and created a certain perception about an artist.

Marketing and advertising should be part and parcel of your career, even billion dollar companies still do advertising, said DJ Fresh.

He encouraged artsists to exploit social media platforms and be consistent in what they were posting, adding they should have a separate page for other things they were passionate about.

He said reading was essential for building a career and artists should up-skill themselves.

Longevity in the industry depended on artist’s efforts.

One must be too good that they are irreplaceable, said DJ Fresh.

He regretted that selfishness was destroying the creative industry and called for mind-set change.

DJ Fresh reminded artists that humbleness would open doors for them.

Artists said rubbing shoulders with DJ Fresh was inspirational and motivated them.

DJ Fresh is part of the Department of Broadcasting Services nationwide roadshow that launched in Kanye on September 20. ends
