Residents of Jackalas No. 2 in the North East District have been advised to encourage young people to start playing football at a tender age.
Minister of Youth, Gender, Sports and Culture, Tumiso Rakgare, said this after a game between teams of ministers Rakgare and Douglas Letsholathebe at the village on Friday. The two teams also comprised councillors.
Rakgare said the game was held to show residents that they were with the residents following outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD).
He said the outbreak resulted with suspension of exports of meat products and movement of cattle, something that affected many.
Rakgare said partaking of ministers in the game, showed residents that their leaders had not abandoned them.
This, he said, would give them hope and showed a spirit of togetherness.
The game saw ministers Rakgare, Letsholathebe, Assistant Minister Buti Billy and councilors displaying their football skills.
For his part, Letsholathebe, who is also the MP for Tati East and Minister of Education and Skills Development, said the purpose of the game was to demonstrate that when the community worked together, there would always be positive results.
Through Community Constituency Project (CCP), the residents of Jackalas No. 2 constructed a mini stadium at their village.
He said through the game, constituents were celebrating the donation of P30 000 geared towards electrification of the stadium.
