Centre Chiefs to learn case status today

06 Oct 2022

The Lobatse high court judge, Matlhogonolo Phuthego will on Friday make determination on whether the case between Mochudi Centre Chiefs Society, Mochudi Centre Chiefs (Pty) Ltd and three others, should be treated as an urgent matter.

The society on Wednesday dragged Mochudi Centre Chiefs (Pty) Ltd to court in a dispute over ownership and control of the first division south club.

The society is adamant that it is the rightful custodian of the fallen Kgatleng giants, while on the other hand, the company has claimed legal ownership of the club.

Legendary former Chiefs goalkeeper and coach, Molefi ‘Sexton’ Kowa, Ramocha Tsieng and former Chiefs’ chairman Edwin ‘Lux’ Mothulatshipi are the other respondents cited in the matter.

The applicant lawyer, pleaded with court on Wednesday to treat the issue as an urgent matter, saying the society would suffer irreparable harm if control of the club remained in the hands of the company.

She said funds belonging to the club had been misappropriated and the society therefore needed to regain control of the club’s assets and administration processes to be able to execute its responsibilities properly, such as payment of players’ allowances and salaries, as well as carrying out preparations for the football season.

The applicant lawyer further said the society was currently unable to attend official meetings because the company was acting on its behalf, without mandate, adding that the culture of the society was at risk of deterioration if the matter could not be heard urgently.

However, the request was opposed by the defence lawyers Seko Mnthali and Phillimon Leitshamo, saying it lacked merits for urgency and asked the court to dismiss the matter, with costs to the applicant.  ENDS
