Komatsu Botswana is devoted to creating a conducive learning environment through improvement of facilities in some schools.
Komatsu Botswana managing director, Martin Cowley said this on Tuesday during the handing over of cheques to the Komatsu-AM600 Cycling Challenge beneficiaries.
The three-day charity ride held in honor of the late Debswana managing director, Albert Milton, raised P1.7 million.
Beneficiaries included St Joseph’s Primary School in Kgale, which benefited a fully partitioned library.
Mokoboxane Primary school in Boteti was gifted with chairs for the learners, while Journey of Hope benefited an ultra sound machine to fast track screening for breast cancer.
“We want to ensure that learning takes place in a conducive environment where learners are accommodated in appropriate ways,” Cowley said.
He said the library at Joseph’s primary would aid research and stimulate learners’ curious minds.
Furthermore, he said the Komatsu-AM600 Cycling Challenge played a pivotal role on the health sector, hence supporting Journey of Hope, an organisation promoting breast cancer awareness.
“We are of the view that early detection and treatment can prevent most fatalities. The state of the art ultra sound scanning machine has the capacity to simultaneously run a number of tests leading to a wider reach,” said Cowley.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, Pauline Mogaga from St Joseph’s primary expressed delight and appreciation to Komatsu-AM600 challenge for the noble gesture saying the donation would help better results.
She applauded organisers of the cycling challenge for their contribution to the health sector.
Secretary at the Rural Development Council in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Berzack Maphakwane, appreciated thedomations.
He said such initiatives helped strengthen the partnership for development between government and the private sector.
Maphakwane said the donation came at the right time as some of their schools were in dire need of the classroom furniture and library infrastructure.
The cycling challenge focuses on the upliftment of education and health sector in the country.
This year’s Komatsu-AM600 challenge was held in May and started off in Jwaneng going through Lobatse to Gaborone, and proceeding to Mahalapye, then back again to Gaborone to complete three days. ENDS
