Support boosts athletes performance

With necessary support, Botswana athletes can attain the silverware they desire.
Speaking at the Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) victory celebration in Gaborone on September 26, Debswana head of corporate affairs, Rachel Mothibatsela said athletes flew the national flag high at each of the international competitions.
Although in some cases they did not get the results they had aimed for, Botswana was counted among competitive nations.
Mothibatsela said athletes competed against the world’s best and gave their all.
“Indeed with the right support, our teams will triumph in many respects. I would like to highlight some of the achievements, starting with the 9.91 World U20 record in the men’s 100m by Letsile Tebogo and the medals won by other athletes,” she said.
As BAA’s main sponsor, she said, Debswana was proud to be associated with the good performance.
“It is our wish as Debswana that the support we are providing shall boost Botswana Athletics Association’s mandate of developing athletics,” she said. On other issues, Mothibatsela said Debswana and BAA had signed a P9 million sponsorship agreement covering a period of three years.
This, she said was to primarily prepare athletes and get them ready for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Due to the deal, she said, athletics teams had managed to participate in international competitions.
Runner, Tsaone Sebele, said many firsts were achieved this season, adding that in their quest to earn their stripes, some athletes outdid themselves.
She said Botswana’s name was also engraved in the record books through Tebogo’s performance in the 100 metres race.
Furthermore, she said Debswana’s assistance had thrown a life to the athletes as many were motivated to perform to their best of ability. Ends
