20 Sep 2022

Orapa Diamond golf challenge (ODGC) is a clear indication that Orapa Letlhakane and Damtshaa Mines (OLDM) are driving the pillar of happy people.

The general manager of OLDM, Mogakolodi Maoketsa, said this on Sepember 18 during the golf challenge.

He said Debswana’s aim and purpose was to make life brilliant.

He said they had set aside some money for corporate social investment, but that it could never be enough looking at the challenges they had in either sport or community development.

He said the golf challenge would go a long way in supporting aspirations of making life brilliant in communities, adding that proceeds made through the challenge would be used in community and sport development.

Maoketsa also said the three-day golf challenge had been exciting because there were a lot of activities supporting the event.

He cited the business exposition, golf clinic for juniors and the golfers festival, saying they catered for everyone.

He also said the aim was to make Orapa a great place to work in and visit.

President of Botswana Golf Union, Modiri Phuthego, said their interest was in developing the youth and ensure that all facilities were in good condition.

He applauded Orapa Golf Club for engaging juniors to caddy for them, saying he was confident they would be playing golf in the coming years.

The golf challenge was sponsored by Botswana Insurance Holdings Limited (BIHL).

Walter Seokemong of Orapa Golf Club scooped position one in the professionals division.

Edwin Madigele, also of Orapa Golf Club, emerged the champion in the man’s division and walked away with P40 000 while 15-year-old Maru Chokwe from Gaborone Club was the champion in the ladies division and won herself P30 000, both sponsored by DeBeers. Ends
