GU AS Vita clash Sunday

Premier league champions, Gaborone United and Democratic Republic of Congo’s AS Vita Club will meet in preliminary round of the CAF Champion’s League at the National Stadium on Sunday.
The game is scheduled to start at 6pm. Addressing the media on Wednesday, GU director, Nicolas Zakhem, said they could not move the game to Francistown, despite the fact that the National Stadium had been booked for a church crusade on Friday and Saturday night. “When the church booked, GU were still playing league games and we did not know whom we will play in the CAF league and when,” Zakhem said.
Nonetheless, he suggested that football should be given priority to use the National Stadium over the church activities.
For his part, newly appointed GU coach, Benny Kgomela, said preparations were going well and the team was ready for the all-important Sunday clash.
Kgomela said the technical team had anticipated the CAF participation, hence GU would be playing for a win on Sunday.
“We are Gaborone United, we always play to win,” he said, adding they had assembled players ready to compete at the highest level.
On one hand, assistant coach, Pontsho Moloi, who had been with GU before the arrival of Kgomela said the team was injury free.
Pontsho said nine of their players had just joined the team from national team duty, something he said had helped to keep them match fit during off season.
He also said the technical team had an opportunity to study and analyse their opponents.
The team captain, Mpho Kgaswane promised the supporters that the team would deliver on Sunday. “We are ready. I know it is not going to be an easy game as both teams will be playing each other for the first time and wanting to win,” he said.
Meanwhile, tickets for the Sunday clash are sold P50 for the grand stand and P30 elsewhere.
The return leg would be played in DRC on September 18. ENDS
